Yes! The current research suggests that kegel exercises, when used regularly and correctly, are effective at strengthening pelvic floor muscles, which in turn improves vaginal elasticity, urinary continence, orgasm strength and childbirth recovery. Kegel balls are the exercise tool which you can use to “weight lift” with your vagina.
The pelvic floor muscles are a hammock of muscles surrounding the pelvis, they provide support to the bladder, vagina, uterus and rectum. These are the same muscles that you would use to stop yourself from urinating. The pelvic floor muscles can weaken from disuse, age, injury and childbirth. Some issues associated with a having a weak pelvic floor include urinary incontinence and pelvic prolapse.
Just like regular muscle training, kegel exercises involve repetitive contraction of your pelvic floor muscles, for the purpose of achieving stronger and more effective muscle functions. These muscles can be tricky to locate and isolate initially, but with some practice they can be activated correctly at will.
Kegel balls (also called wa balls or eggs), are weighted balls with a cord that you can insert into your vagina for the purpose of activating the pelvic floor muscles. You are required to hold them in place against gravity, while squeezing the muscles around them for 3-5 seconds per repetition. Kegel ball usage in your exercise program can help get faster results, as they can heighten muscle awareness and the progressive resistance. It typically takes 3-4 weeks of daily kegel exercise training to achieve a noticeable improvement in strength, but the results are certainly worth the effort.
Furthermore, kegel balls can also be used for pleasure and arousal too. When used as a sex toy, the cord may be rotated or pulled on gently to create a range of sensations. Some kegel ball products even have an additional vibration function. Be sure to clean your kegel products with mild soapy water before and after use.
